Air bagging a BMW E46 Vert-(Accuiar+Airlift)

Sacrilegious? Maybe, but who cares.

I am sure the hardcore BMW owners are balling their fist screaming at the monitor right now but I am glad I got the chance to bag this nice E46.

Starting off with Airlift universal struts for the front, brackets and mounts were fabricated making it a complete bolt in.

The rear was a little bit more simple using Airlifts new VW R32 bag. It fell right into place with no hassles. Once the bags were mounted, the task of mounting the Accuair E-level arms were next. The front was simple but the rear proved to be a challenge with limited mounting points and tire and wheel clearance. Once the determined placement was desired everything else fell into place.

The management is controlled using Accuair's E-level w/ rocker switch. The switch was mounted under the armrest for easy access but discreet visibility. Using a Viair 444c and a 3 gallon black anodized aluminum tank allowed little space to be used in the trunk area.

I can honestly say that this car is the best riding bagged car I have done so far and handles amazing!

2011 was an incredible year for us at Dorbritz Designs. With the explosion of the air ride scene, we were afforded the opportunity to work on some of the most influential automobiles. Needless to say, we are extremely thankful for the support and dedication. From offering retail products, to simple installs, to over-the-top custom air struts, we had our hands in some incredible cars and it was a truly memorable year with the final tally coming in at 22 air ride builds. However, with this influx of cars to be built, comes the necessity for increased space. ENTER: The Kustom Shoppe.

2011 ended on a promising note with Leo's Coffee and Cream Mk4 GTi, but the biggest build of the year was yet to be tackled. Dorbritz Designs has now moved to a larger location providing us with the opportunity to do more for all of you. However, this was no simple pack and move ordeal. The Kustom Shoppe began as a skeleton, to say the least. Days upon days of hard work allowed us to complete the daunting task of creating a shop environment that screamed "Dorbritz Designs"! Completing the shop gave us confidence that 2012 will be an even better year. We're looking forward to bigger and better builds, and to provide you all with the satisfaction and quality service you deserve. Thank you all for allowing us to reach this point, we could not have completed this without your help.

This was the starting point. The idea of a finished product was merely a fleeting thought. After many long days and late nights, the shop turned into a build in itself!

The transformation is complete. A few simple tasks remain, but for the most part, it feels like our own now. The teal adds some vibrancy which is intensified by a few tube style lights. In addition, the floor was coated in epoxy with teal and grey flakes to add traction and provide an easy surface to clean, and lay on!

When you walk in the front door, you're greeted by familiar products. A Dorbritz Designs D-Cup display accompanied by a Rotiform BLQ, a Vossen Wheels LookBook, and Accuair banner and pamphlets all welcome you.

The Eos tucks away nicely in the spacious bay.

The workbench was made to accomodate any job. There's a carpeted space for delicate items, a wooden area for drilling and sanding, and a metal spot for welding, grinding and jobs that require force. Not to mention storage space allows for organization and quick retrieval.

Air bagging a MK4 GTI-Coffee and Cream (Accuair E-level+Airlift)

I don't think the Beastie Boys could have said it any better.

To know Leo and this car when it was originally Silverstone in color, you knew it was hardcore. Leo drove the GTI lower static than most people aired out and with aggressive offsets.

Well that finally did a number on the paint and Leo felt it was time for a color change. The car was completely resprayed in Quicksand color code from Toyota's FJ line. The paint was sprayed out by Pat of Pats Paint Werks in Baytown Texas, near Houston who did an amazing job with the color change.

Pat's also treated the Image wheels to a respray as well in a BMW Sepang bronze to compliment the fresh creaminess of the paint.

Once it was done it was time to prevent the paint from getting burnt. Leo opted for the Accuair E-level w/ control pad and manifold. The black anodized control pad was nestled in an abs molded pod fixated where the armrest use to occupy. The air was supplied by using dual Viair 400c filling the dual 3 gallon tanks painted in Toyota's Sandstorm to compliment the exterior of the car. Holding the tanks in place was Accuair EXO mount color matched to the car. Hardlines were then used to tie the two tanks together and painted Sepang Bronze as well. The AN black anodized fittings were then used to offer a tight seal and add contrast to the creamy colors.

Airlift XL front struts help bring the fenders closer to the tire as well as Airlift performance bags for the rear. One of the obstacles to overcome was allowing the MK4 to still run the Masontech great plates. To do this the rear nipple was cut off and a nut was welded approx. an inch further away from the original mounting point on the frame. The stud in the top bracket was then replaced with a longer threaded rod to reach the nut allowing the bracket to screw in place. This allowed proper alignment and clearance for the sleeve style bag.

This was the last build of the year and I think it capped off an amazing year of builds.

Air bagging a MK5-Simplicity (Airlift slam series)

Keeping it simple on this one. All the components located in the spare tire well allowing full use of the cargo area and oe carpet cover. The controller was placed in the euro cubby to allow easy access and visibility for the driver.

The car is riding on Airlift XL's and slam rears.

Air bagging a MK6 Jetta TDI-Under Construction ( Airlift, Accuair, Switchbox)

Maybe the car isn't anymore but one quick glance at the tank and you might think it's under construction.

We wanted to give a working industrial theme to accent the TDi motor lurking under the hood.

The Tank was painted and airbrushed to give a worn metal and used construction piece. It was then hung from the rear deck lid using the Accuair exo mounts.

The dual Viair 400c compressors were then mounted to the side and offset behind the tank giving you a slight peak at them. The Accuair VU4 manifold along with the relays, wiring and airlines were also placed on the rear deck lid right behind the tank, giving complete use of the trunk floor and keeping the spare tire.

The montoring of the system was done with dual needle Airlift gauges mounted in a custom pod made to fit in the coin tray. The tank gauge was then mounted in the center console with the AVS 7 way switch box by its side.

The suspension rest on Airlift front XL's struts and Dorbritz Designs D-Cups shortys brackets( available soon) with Air house II bags.

Shipped to us was a standard Audi A3 ashtray. The task was making the Accuair controller fit nicely in it's place.

Air bagging a MK2-(Switch Speed+ Masontech)

Call it patience or a lack of funds for completing our cars. Only this owner can tell you which one was his. I say this because some of the components and talk about bagging this little MK2 started nearly 2 years ago but I am glad it has finally made the trip from Oklahoma to see it become reality.

Starting off with the suspension was Masontech front struts and Masontech / Airlift rears that were purchased used but in near new condition helped this car touch down.

The supply of air to those bags are being delivered by a single Viair 480c compressor and a 5 gallon aluminum tank that was color matched Alpine white.

Inside, the controls of the management were used with a Accuair Switch Speed and Dakota Digital gauge. The units were placed in the center console where a cubby, 12 volt outlet and ashtray once occupied. The 12 volt outlet was relocated underneath for use and the panel was made to flush mount the Switch Speed and house the gauge for easy monitoring.

Well, we have been working hard here lately and it was time to get to one of our own, Joel's wheels.

The wheels started with a white powder coated to the face which did not jive with Joel nor the Silverstone MK4 they were going on. The wheels were soda blasted in house and then we tried our hand at a brushed technique. Once we got to the desired look we were going after we mixed up a concoction of clear with a hint of black and Silverstone paint to tint the clear. It helped bring out the brushed strokes in the aluminum and had a bit of sparkle when the light hit it just right. The final step was tumbling the bolts and stripping the zinc coating off and polishing them and the lips out.

We hope you like the outcome, I know Joel does.

Air bagging a MK5 Jetta-(Accuair Switchspeed+Airlift)

Started with the Accuair switch speed controller which was placed in the Dorbritz Designs console mount. This particular mount was customized to accommodate the Dakota Digital gauge. The Accuiar VU4 manifold and brain were then mounted in the trunk on the passenger side compartment to be displayed so you know what makes this car go up and down. The air system was supplied via dual Viar 444c compressor and Accuair dual 3 gallon aluminum tank which were brushed and painted in a tinted clear. Finished off the look with 3/8"s copper tubing. The front struts are Airlift XL's and rear is fitted with Dorbritz Designs D-cup rear brackets and UA air House II bags.

Air bag build on a BMW E28 5 series

Stage 1

This build was put together for the car's debute at an upcoming show. Needless to say we were under the gun. Started off using the Airlift universal air strut kits; then we chose to use a double bellow bag set-up for the front with 9 way ride dampening. For the rear we used a chapman sleeve style shock set up also with 9 way adjustable dampening.

The front was measured and trimmed down to the desired height. After cutting the factory strut off the spindle, the new assembly was then welded on. The top mounting plate starts out with an oversized piece of metal that needs to be cut down to fit the upper strut towers. Once this was done the holes were drilled and the supplied studs were pressed in.

The rear was much like the front. The only difference was using the supplied shock mount and pressing in the needed bushing. The upper plate was made just like the front mount.

The system is controlled as of right now using paddle valves, 5 gallon fat tank with dual 444c Viair compressors. For stage 2, the only thing that will remain is the compressors. This was just to get the car to the show so stayed tuned for part 2.

Air Bagging a Mk4 GTI- Paddles and Podi

Simple yet effective, the car was bagged using basic parts and supplies with the exception of Podi's *new* digital air monitoring gauges.

Starting off with Airlifts 5 gallon fat boy tank, it was quickly realized that it would need to be modified to fit in the spare tire well to keep a discrete look in the back.

The mounting feet were cut off and modified then the tank was clocked just enough for the fittings to fit underneath the floor. The new mounting feet were then welded into place. The spare wheel well was carpeted to give a finished and clean look for what was to come. Mounting the modified tank in its' place followed by the supplied Viair 380c was all that was needed to showcase the air supply. The tank gauge was mounted up on the side to give a quick check on the system if need be.

Next, the paddle valves were mounted in what was the ashtray to give quick and easy use to the manual paddle valves. Tied into the system was the pressure sensors for the Podi digital gauges; mounting all 4 senders to a panel to hold them in place.

The gauges were then placed above the radio in the single DIN spot for keeping the driver informed.

Airlift supplied the Ups and Downs with their Xl's series in the front and rear. And Finally a c-notch was performed to accommodate the passenger side axle when laying down.

Air bagging a MK5 GTI-The Works (Airlift)

I think it's properly titled considering the wheels and the work that was done.

An air install, a sub box and some molding and paint work pretty much sum it up.

The air system is an Airlift Autopilot controller molded into the factory sunglass holder and painted to match. A red gel was placed behind the lens to achieve an OEM red glow. The air is supplied with a 5 gallon skinny aluminum tank that was color matched to the exterior of the car. It was partially hidden underneath the false floor which also hides the single Viair 380c compressor and the airlift manifolds. Those items are tucked away a little further down to give a clean and simple look. The sub box was designed and built as part of the false floor and houses a 12 in sub.

The suspension components are Airlift Xl's struts for the front and a notch to help the lip sit on the floor. The rear is on a set of Dorbritz Designs D-cups an Slam Specialties re-5's.

Badgeless Eos Grill-White

Both grills started out as chrome and were cut and sanded down for paint.

The center section was painted a flat black and the shield was finished off in a candy white.

Here is a MK6 Jetta that was done up in a moderate drop using Koni Coilovers, Rotiform BLQ Machined 19 x 8.5 et 45 and Hankook evo v12 225/35/19's all supplied by Dorbritz Designs.

The customer was looking for something a little bit better than stock and I believe it was achieved.

Bagging a .:R?

Isn't that sacrilegious?

The car is .:Ruined now, really.

At least the owner has a sense of humor and and I am sure he will be hearing it from many .:R owners. Although this isn't the first bagged .:R, it was mine and here's how it was done.

The car was fitted with the Ridetech E3 Level Pro to help keep the car true to the road along with the sway bar using the new Dorbritz Designs sway bar brackets for the Airlift front struts. The Leveling arms work in conjunction with pressure sensors to give feedback to the driver. They were trim to fit up front and were mounted to the lower A-arm and upper frame to allow proper travel. The frame was also notched to allow the car to sit flat on its' belly.

The rear was set-up w/ Slam specialties re-5's and D-cups as well as H&R ultra-low shocks. The leveling arms were attached much like the front but by welding on a tab to the lower control arm.

Here comes the tricky part, keeping the spare in the trunk as well as making access to the rear mounted battery and still having some trunk space. By building a custom fiberglass enclosure to hide and house the dual Viair 444c, management, brain and wiring as well as a color match 3 gallon aluminum tank with ".:Ruined" done up in matching spun aluminum trim, we were able to tuck everything away neatly. All wrapped in dark gray suede the trunk was on its' way to having a tailored look.

The controls to the system were mounted on a matching suede panel that was stashed away in the ashtray cubby. The 12v power outlet was moved to the side of the center console to allow the control to fit snug in the compartment.

Air Bagging a MK6 Golf TDI-No Notch ( Airlift + Ridetech E3)

The car that was supposed to be bagged was a Mk4 GLI. In a twist of fates, the car was wrecked and totaled a week prior before it's appointment. The owner was determined to have a car bagged one way or another. What better way than starting off with a brand new TDI Golf.

The most two most important things to the owner was one keeping a very stock look on the inside and retaining the sway bar with out a frame notch.

The suspension set-up was based on the Airlift XL's for the front and the Airlift performance series bag and bracket for the rear. Using the first prototype sway bar mount to be used on the Airlft Xl's, they were mounted on the front strut retaining the sway bar.

The Ridetech E3 management was then mounted in the spare tire area using a 3 Gallon aluminum air tank and dual Viair 400c compressors to supply the air. With all the components mounted snugly the factory cover was used to conceal the set-up with none the wiser.

The E3 controller was mounted on top of the ashtray/coin holder lid. It still allows the use of the 12v power outlet and can be hidden as well by flipping the lid, again, stealth is key.

Air Bagging a B6 Passat sedan-6ft Under ( Airlift-Analog gauges-7 way switchbox)

Ok, Maybe not 6 ft. under but its low. This vehicle came all the way from Arkansas to get it low.

Starting off with Airlift Xl's and a c-nonth to bring down the front. The rear was done by using Slam Specialties bags and D-cups along with bilstein shocks.

The air is managed with dual Airlift valves, a 5 gallon Aluminum tank painted to match and dual Viair 400c's tucked away in the side cubby's. Keeping as much of the trunk space as possible the valves were mounted behind the tank up along the rear deck lid with all the relays as well. A trim piece was then mounted in front of the tank to hide as much of the exposed components as possible. The compressors on each side are mounted to a wooden platform underneath the carpet giving it a solid base but keeping with a factory appearance.

The Controller was then tucked away in the center console beside the custom made tank gauge mount. The 2 dual needle gauges to monitor ride height were placed in the dash cubby also in custom gauge mount housing the air horn button as well.

Here is another very simple execution of a bag set-up.

Its starts off using Airlift Xl's in the front and Slam Specialties SS-5's w/D-cups for the rear. A 3 gallon aluminum tank was then mounted on some fabricated brackets to rotate and attach to the top of the deck lid. A pressure switch, schrader valve, and air input and output occupy the 3 ports.

A single Thomas compressor was tucked away on the driver side compartment area behind the carpeted side panel leaving unseen.

The system is the managed using 4 paddle valves located in the ashtray and monitored w/ Airlift Ez-Street dual needle gauge and a small viair tank gauge.

The original build and set-up was done on a black Passat done about a year ago seen here.

It was sold to another Passat owner and was re-installed in his vehicle. Pretty much the same set-up was carried out in this vehicle using the first Gen. Masontechs for the front and Slam Speciaties re-5's for the rear w/ D-cups. The air pressure gauges were mounted in the cubby underneath the headlight switch and box was made for the control switches.

VW MK5 GLI air bag build- whity tighty (Airlift+Autopilot)

Got a chance to bag this clean white GLI and I am glad I did.

The car didn't need much and a simple set-up was all that it needed. Starting with building a simple metal frame to hold the 2 Airlift valve blocks and 2 gallon tank, it was made to fit in the side cubby on the left hand side of the trunk. The brain to the Autopilot was mounted to the side panel along with the relay and all wiring an airline was fished out behind it keeping it concealed and hidden. The OE carpet floor was then replaced with a hardwood floor to had a little styling to the back end. The Viair 480c compressor was then mounted to the floor underneath the color matched white tank. Hardly any space was lost and the spare tire was also retained. The controller was then mounted and tucked away under the armrest in the console.

Here is a change for a customer who already had the air install done. The tank was painted with BMP and Silver stone checkers 80's style. Then it was relocated to the upper deck lid along with the air pressure gauge.

The car was originally on B.O.C. so Airlift Xl's were installed along with a c-notch to bring the front closer to the ground.

VW MK4 air set-up trunk upgrade

Some of you might remember the Budget build done a while back ago. The initial set-up was done to show simplicity and keep it budget friendly.

Well, it was time for an upgrade and redo. This is a perfect way to show you can start simple and build from there. Since the original build, the owner has removed his B.O.C set-up and upgraded to Airlift XL's front struts and now it was time to change the trunk set-up.

The customer built the new frame for the floor and made room for a jack, his spare tire, and a small tool box. We then mounted the JL Audio stealth sub box in the spare tire and flipped it upside down so we would have room for the air tank. The tank was then mounted on a board and hinged so it could be moved up and out of the way to access the spare when needed.

The finishing step was taking the tank and covering it in a spun aluminum vinyl. Capping it off with a new upper floor covered in Ultra Suede and molded in caps for the tank. The rest of the cargo area and seat backs were treated to the same material.

Air bagging a MK6 JSW- Imperial edition ( Accuair )

Are you a Star Wars fan? Do you know the symbol for the Imperial fleet? You will after the end of this build.

If Darth Vader was to drive a car you might think it would be a VW and you would hope it's this

Jetta Sport Wagen (JSW).

I was looking forward to this one knowing the amount of little things that would bring it all together. We will start with the painted pieces, most importantly the tank.

Using a base coat of United Gray as a start, I was then able to lay down the time consuming Imperial emblems, next a reflex silver was sprayed over. After removing the mask, a House of Kolors Red Apple candy coat was layered over the symbols. Next the JSW was sprayed in a Star Wars font and a final clear coat was added.

The interior trim of the car along with the rear view mirror was also treated with the same technique.

The Trunk build was next which started with ripping out the factory rear cargo panels and making room for the 2 Viair Compressors, one on each side. A layer of Dynomat was put down to help quiet the drone of the 2 compressors. New side panels were then created to conceal the compressors.

Using part of the factory false floor in the JSW, the tank was mounted along with a trim piece to give the rolling floor effect. All of the Accuair E-level components were stored underneath the false floor as well as the wiring and plumbing.

The Accuiar E-level controller was then placed in the a custom molded plastic pod covered in black vinyl to match the interior. Removing the console to access and remove the cup holder, the new control pod mount was mounted in its' place.

The suspension components consist of Airlift XL's front struts and Slam Specialties re-5 with D-cups. Controlling the ride height, the E-level arms were mounted as well to help this JSW find its' ride height.

Really never expected to bag another Eos other than my own,

This one came all the way from Tennessee.

It's running a Accuair e-level management system along with a 3 gallon aluminum tank that was polished out to compliment the dual Viair 400c compressors.

The front of the vehicle was brought down using Airlift XL's bag strut and the rear using Slam Specialties re-5's and D-cups.

To control the air the controller was fished through the door and mounted with in arms reach on the lower door panel.

Air Bagging a B6 Passat sedan- California style (Accuair+Bagyard)

Just got back in town from this build in Sunny SoCal, starting off with a Passat B6 sedan. The customer still wanted trunk space and a spare tire. Instead of building a false floor we started from the original floor height and built up a rolling floor, only increasing in height were needed yet keeping the flow of the back area. The custom painted Mocha Brown tank was partial exposed and the rest of the Accuair e-level management and dual Viair 444c were hidden from plain site.
The controller was then mounted in the custom made cup holder mount that was previously made before the trip. It still allows use of the holders in the euro cup holder as well as concealing the controller when need be.

The level controllers were then mounted in the front by welding two studs for the upper sensor and drilling and tapping the lower arm for the lower mount. The rear was bolted in instead.

Bagyard Supremes w/ sway bar attachment were used to bring the front down and Slam Specialties re-6's and D-cups were used for the rear.

The rear seat delete was built in place of the lower seat cushion using 1/2inch mdf and hardboard. The top layer is 2 pieces of hardboard so the spare tire still can be accessed it is finished in factory matched cargo carpet.

Air bagging a MK4 GLI Jetta

So you want your cake and eat it too?

Well, ok.

The customer brought me his MK4 Jetta with a sub box that already had 3 subs along with an amplifier on top and on the back . The goal was to add an airride system to the mix and keep the spare and if possible not loose any more trunk space.

Most of the components for the airride were mounted on a 6 inch wide by 39 inch long plank. This included the 2 Viair 400c Compressors, 2 Airlift manifolds, 80 amp relay, and Dakota digital gauge pressure sending units.

The 2 amps were them moved to the back of the box were all wires and airlines also ran.

A false wall was then created and covered in color matched carpet to hide all the components and exposing just the the subs.

Using an accuair air tank it was polished out on the right side and masked off and sprayed Lagoona blue to match the car as well as the sub woofer trim rings. The tank was then mounted in front of the false wall and up on the back shelf of the truck moving it up and out of the way.

The front suspension is riding on UA B.O.C. (bag over coils) and FK's coilovers and the rear on Slam Specialties re-5 w/ some cut down brackets.

To control the the manifolds a AVS 7 way switchbox was placed up front in near the armrest and a Dakota Digital round gauge was mounted in the cup holder to monitor the tank and bags.

Lupo Air bag build

Well, It was a first for me, I was asked to bag a Lupo from Mexico. It's actually a fox but re badged as a Lupo for south of the Border.

There was a lot of uncertainties when taking on this project like mainly the suspension and what would fit. I took a chance and started with Airlift's XL front and rears for a MK4. I can say I got lucky for the most part. The struts fit in to the spindle up front but quickly realized the upper mount and bearings were like a MK5 but smaller. I made up some top plates to replace the standard Airlift plates to correct the problem. The rear was much like a MK4 but a little shorter in distance. Using the Airlift rear bag and bracket it worked well, even the upper nipple didn't have to be drilled out for the crush nut like a standard MK4.

Being a smaller plate form with limited space a 3 gallon aluminum tank was used as well as a single Viair 444c compressor.

The tank started off as raw aluminum and was polished out to compliment the chrome compressor. The back area was

pretty scarce form any carpet so a black salt and pepper carpet was added to clean up the look and add some sound deadening form the compressor. A bracket was the built to hold the tank and compressor to the side off the fender well and off the floor so the spare could still be accessed.

A single 1/4 line is feed to the paddle valves and gauges up front. Using a previous DIN mount the gauges were placed in it's spot using ABS plastic for a panel. The paddle switched were the mounted in place were a cubby resided for easy access and use.

For fun we were able to test fit some 17" Rotiforms on the car w/et 20 which was a little to aggressive. With the right wheel size and offsett this car will lay out.

I know the owner is looking into 18's as soon as his wheels sell.

Custom Foglight Grills- MK6 GTI

Here is a follow up to the custom lower grill for the MK6 GTI w/o honeycomb.

These are the side fog light grills that also have honeycomb. They were cut and smoothed out to match the new center piece. The pic below are unfinished w/o paint and can be painted gloss black or flat black like the oe.

Recycled-VW MK4 GTI Sub box

A little back story, this was built 10 years ago for my own MK4 4 door golf. It was my first VW and my first fiberglass enclosure that I made. It holds a 10 ins sub and is mounted to the side to still allow trunk space. After I sold my car 8 years ago I gave it to my cousin to use in his car. After talking with him recently he told me he still had it and I gladly accepted it back. It was updated with another layer of fiberglass and a front piece to allow the sub to be countersunk. The old carpet was tore off and fresh new carpet was also installed. It's weird to have a piece you built 10 years ago still around and being put to use again.

Air bagging a B6 Passat Wagon

This is long overdue but this one was the first build that was documented and it was my own. This build was done back in August of 2008. The components used was the Airride technologies e2 and the supplied 5 gallon tank along with the Thomas compressors. The original set-up was based off of K/W v2 coilovers with a Universal Air bag for struts. It was replaced a year later with Mastontechs to achieve the final desired stance. Slam Specialties re-6 bag were used as well as some brackets that were cut down to gain desired height. The tank was painted with 1shot paint and a cheesecloth to gain the look of a vintage suitcase. Some water transfer decals were then reproduced and applied to the tank to give a more genuine look.

A year a go a friend purchased a factory golf grill with bars to replace his factory honeycomb grill in his GTI. He soon realized it would not even come close to replacing his honeycomb grill. He brought them to me and I was able to trim them down and fuse them both together so it would fit in his factory GTI location. I never took many pictures of the different pieces when doing it the first time but I was able to this time around. A customer from Austria saw his and wanted one as well so here are the picture of the two pieces becoming one.

Air bagging a MK3 Cabrio

This build was definitely a challenge incorporating a 12 in. sub, amp and all the necessary items for the airride and did I mention the spare tire was also kept. No big deal, right? It is if you are putting in a trunk space the size of a bread box.

The sub box was first built and placed in the trunk with the speaker firing towards the rear seat. With the seat folded down you are able to access and see the 12 in. sub. The amp then was piggy backed to the side of the box to save room. Next a false wall was created to clean up the look of the box and hide it from plain site. One it was in place the mounting board was made for what would hold the 3 gallon Aluminum tank, 2 Viair 400c compressors, Airlift manifolds as well as the autopilot brain and relays. A false floor was the fitted to the top to expose half of the tank and hide the rest of the components.

The tank was painted House of Kolors Coca Pearl (color matched BBS RM's wheels to follow). Some trick graphics were layed down to tie in the cowgirl pin-up upholstered fabric the customer had picked out to finish off the trunk.

The Autopilot controller was painted flat black to blend in with the factory console area and mounted n the bottom tray next to the cup holders.

The front Airlift rear chapman style bags and shocks were installed feed by 1/4 airline and the front Double below Airlift Xl's were installed as well with 3/8's airline. A c-nocth was then done to bring the cabrio to the ground.

Seems kind of funny to post this but it just seemed right. This is a work/tow rig for the customers show truck and he wasn't completely happy with the stock 2 door speakers and cassette player. It's a 2000 Chevy 3/4 ton crewcab long bed and the customer had collected some freebies, hand me downs and good deals on these components. Just seems fitting it was period correct.
For those that remember the Kenwood KVT-911 TV head unit that started it all it was installed in the factory location, almost out dated because the TV turner doesn't even work due to the new digital standards. The 10 disc changer ( old version of a MP3 ) player was installed where the factory airbag would have been on 1/2 ton trucks but the 3/4 ton and 1 tons were not required to have them at this time.
New Rockford Fosgate mids and highs were installed in the front factory locations and the rear needed a little bit of cutting to were there would have been speakers. Next a sub box was built using MDF board and factory matching carpet to go behind the seat. The Rockford Fosgate 12-P3S was counter sunk into the box to help protect the speaker a little bit better.
Last, a Rockford Fosgate amp was run to power the single sub and a JL Audio 4 channel amp was used to power the mid's and highs. Both were mounted on a simple amp rack next to the sub.

I can honestly say this one brought back some memories. LOL!

Air bagging a MKV GTI-Simple Set-up

Here is a simple yet effective install that was just finished on a Mk5 VW GTI.

The components used was Airlift Autopilot controller and management as well as their manifolds and front Bag and strut combination. The Rear is sitting on Slam specialties Re-5's and Dorbritz Designs D-cups with Airlift rear shocks. The compressors are dual Viair 380c and an 5 gallon Accuair tank. Air is supplied with 3/8's line to the front and 1/4' to the rear.

Audi S4- Speaker box and amp rack

Here is a build done on an '04 Audi S4. First installing a Kenwood headunit DNX6960 in the stock location and still utilizing the factory Bose amp and speakers. The chrome trim was retained on the aftermarket dash kit to keep with the factory look. The external base knob was then installed under the armrest where the factory phone would normally plug in. It is fairly hidden but very accessible. A ipod adapter/plug was also installed and is located in the glovebox.
The next thing to do was strip the rear trunk out to start building the custom sub enclosure and amp rack. Using the factory panel to build off it was extended out to accommodate the amp and sub. Once these was formed to the desired shape using poly-fleece and resin it was time to move on to the box and frame. The speaker box was built using MDF front and skeleton ribs to help form the shape. Using Poly-fleece and resin, the basic shape was formed. An additional fiberglass coatings along with more resin gave it strength and denseness. Dynomat was also used on top as well as in the rear quarter fender to help in vibration and sound dampening. The amp frame was built next also using MDF and routed to smooth out the traditions. Once everything was fitted it was time to wrap it in a Micro Suede two tone to match and compliment the interior pieces.

Well, I have to say that when I was asked to do this I was a little anxious and stocked at the same time. Taking on the challenge was a great experience and I loved how the project is coming out. I know the owner has future plans from when it leaves my shop to finish up some things and I can't wait to see the progress. The goodies, started out using the Dakota digital odyessey gauge setup in combination with the 2 Airlift manifolds as well as a AVS 7 way controller. Dual Viair 400c compressors and a 5 gallon aluminum tank that was painted to look patina supplied the air. Brushed copper hard lines were also installed and aged as well. The suspension was done with Re-6 Slam Specialties all the way around and custom brackets were made to make fit in both front and rear location. The innerspring pocket was shaved down to allow ample clearance for the front bags. Final touches were used to complete the install like, carpet and custom dash panel for the gauge.A simple stereo was also installed using an Alpine headunit that had IPod capability and access to it was installed in the console in between the window controls. Two sets of speakers were installed, one in the front foot well area and a set in on the back deck.

Something that is a little unusual but was fun to work on.
Started with a basic golf cart that had seen some ruff days and was stripped down to it's frame. The frame was cleaned and up and resprayed with a semigloss black as well as all the lower plastic pieces. Then the outer shell was painted a two tone bright silver and fire engine red metallic.
The cart needed some tunes so before it was put back together a cd head-unit, high and mid speakers, amp and sub box was installed along with a set of red neon's underneath the frame. To polish it off the still plates were brought back to a shine and billet steering wheel and column was installed. The last accessory was the billet badge.
The cart cleaned up really well and hauls as well.

Air bag build on a VW MK5 Rabbit

Well this build was a little outside the box, at least the tank was. The tank was mounted underneath the car where the factory muffler would have gone. This was done by fabricating aluminum strapping to hold the 2.5 gallon air tank in place. Everything else was mounted in the spare wheel well allowing full use of the cargo area in a very stealth mode.
The airbag system was a full Airlift bag set-up including the front front struts, rear bags, rear shocks, management and valves. It was powered with dual Viair 400c compressors and a Viair 2.5 gallon tank.

This was done a few months back in March of '10, It's my own personal vehicle.

The front airbag struts are Masontech and the rear are Slam Specialties RE-6's with Dorbritz Designs D-cup brackets.
The management is the Airride Technologies E2 powered by dual Viair 400c and a 3 gallon aluminum tank color matched to the care. The complete system is plumed using 3/8's line and copper hardline.

Here is a car that i did out in California. The Airbags front struts air the new Airlift XL's and the rear is the new Slam specialties ss-6's and Dorbritz Designs D-cups. The management and air valves are air Airlift as well. The line size to the front is 3/8's and the rear is 1/4's line with 3/8's hardline running in between the tank and compressors.
Keep in mind that the vehicle is sitting on 19x9.5 et35 with 225/35/19's all the way around.

I have to say I really enjoyed the creativity that I got to use in this build. The Jetta Sport Wagon is riding on Bagyard supreme struts up front and Slam Specialties re-5 bags with Dorbritz Designs D-cups. The management is a Airride Technologies E3 along with dual Viair 400c compressors and dual 2.5 gallon Viair tanks. With this build I'll show more of the trunk set-up than the actual suspension build since it is pretty standard and can be found in previous builds.

The tanks were sanded and painted medium gray metallic, then a mesh was layed over the tanks and was shot with a dark gray metallic paint. I wanted to give the tanks some depth and a crosshatching effect almost like stitching. Once that was dry the "C" mask was layed out and then sprayed with a jet black paint. As a final touch stitching was added to the end caps to give it a finished look. The back of the wagon was then gutted and new side panels were made to hold the tanks. This was done by cutting Masonite board to fit in the original location. A strip of 1/2 MDF was added to the back to give some support to the tank and add some rigidity to the panels. It was then covered with a matching black carpet.
The compressors were mounted on each side behind were the panels would go allowing them to be hidden and bringing full attention to the two tanks. Once the tanks were mounted the management was then mounted in the factory false floor which was modified to accommodate the wiring and lines.
The controller was the mounted to a panel that was made to fit in the factory ashtray/storage location positioned at angle for easy use and monitoring.

Badgeless Grill- VW EOS

Started working on a badgeless grill for an VW EOS. Who cares, right? They sell them already. True but the don't make them with out the euro plate and to me it takes away from the clean look that you are trying to accomplish. Plus you get the added benefit of a factory fit and the plastic matching underneath when you pop your hood.

I start with cutting the factory center section out. The grill is two part, one being the black plastic and two being the chrome shield. This is a tedious process and there is no room for error here due to the fact that when you fuse the badgeless in its place its got to be just as snug as the original.

The badgeless bought grill is the also cut out just like the factory but with even a greater need to be perfect as is will mate up the chrome shield and any error will definitely show.

once these to are cut up they are ready to be fused together using a plastic bond agent.

Next we move on to the shield, using part of the purchased grill it's cut out for the notch to be filled were the emblem once went. this too is also fused in and filled with a plastic filler. Once sanded smooth and primed the Grill shield can be painted to match.
